The Brownfield Coalition (SBBC) assisted the Town of Walkerton, IN in its efforts to help drive for redevelopment of a dormant lot – the brownfield site of a former service station. This site at 204 Roosevelt Road consists of two parcels. This site was initially developed by at least 1922 with at least two residential dwellings. Beginning in the early 1960s, the site began operation as a gasoline service station. The site operated as a gasoline service station from at least the early 1960s through the mid to late 1980s. The site was vacant from this time through the early 2000s, when the building was razed. To assist the Town of Walkerton’s redevelopment plans the Coalition assisted with Walkerton’s environmental due diligence needs. The Coalition provided a Phase I ESA in Feb, 2016 and a Phase I ESA Update in October, 2016. The Phase I ESAs have been leveraged to assist forward momentum for a public library redevelopment – a recent $400,000 implementation grant award through OCRA.
